The 36th District Court will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2010 in observance of Memorial Day. Only Criminal arraignments will be conducted.
The Third Circuit Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2010, in observance of Memorial Day.
The Wayne County Probate Court will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 31, 2010, and will reopen on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 8 a.m.
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will be closed Monday, May 31, 2010, in observance of Memorial Day.
Secretary of State offices will be closed May 31 for Memorial Day. Licenses and plates that expire on a day when state offices are closed, such as a holiday or weekend, can be renewed the following day without penalty.

LAD’s board elects new officers and members
The board of directors of Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) has elected three new officers and three new board members for 2010:
• Chairperson - Patricia A. Wallace, Ph.D., psychologist, Wallace & Associates
• Vice chairperson - Harold Z. Gurewitz, partner, Gurewitz & Raben, PLC
• Secretary - Joel D. Applebaum, member, Clark Hill PLC
• Eric L. Taylor, family independence manager, Schoolcraft District, Michigan Department of Human Services, continues as treasurer.
Wallace succeeds Kelvin W. Scott who was elected chairperson in December 2009 and served until his death on Feb. 20. Wallace had been serving as vice chairperson.
The board also elected three new members to fill vacancies:
• Karen L. Chadwick, associate professor, Thomas M. Cooley Law School
• Sherrie L. Farrell, attorney, Dykema Gossett PLLC
• J. Russell LaBarge, Jr., shareholder, Johnson, Rosati, LaBarge, Aseltyne & Field, P.C.
‘IT Organization Structure’ focus of June ALA meeting
The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) will host its June 2010 Member Meeting on the topic of “IT Organization Structure for 2010 and Beyond” with guest speaker Jay Bahel of Project Leadership Associates on Thursday, June 17, from 11:30 a.m. to noon at Opus One Restaurant in Detroit.
This meeting will take a look at how law firm IT organizations are changing to align to firm needs and to competitively differentiate themselves via systems, processes, and staffing.
The cost to attend is $25 for ALA members and $35 for non-ALA members.
Members are encouraged to extend an invitation to those individuals in their firms that may benefit from this presentation.
