Fifteenth District Court Chief Judge Julie Creal has submitted a letter of resignation to Gov. Snyder effective January 12, 2012, according to Court Administrator Keith Zeisloft.

He added that the judge resigned as chief judge effective last week in a letter sent to State Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Young, Jr.

Judge Creal cited health concerns. She first took the bench by appointment in March of 1999, Zeisloft said.

Zeisloft noted that the State Bar of Michigan has listed the vacancy on its website and has directed interested applicants to see Gov. Snyder's website for application materials.

The SBM lists Dec. 9 as the deadline for submission of applications.

On Tuesday this week, Judge Creal expressed her appreciation to everyone in the legal community for their friendship and collegiality during her years on the bench.

"It's been a privilege to serve with my colleagues on the bench in all the courts of Washtenaw County as well as all the members of the bar," she said.

Zeisloft explained that since the judge began medical leave in August, her docket has been covered by judges Elizabeth Hines and Christopher Easthope. He added that retired Judge Ann Mattson and Judge Charles Pope also have assisted.

Magistrate Colleen Currie has helped prepare files for judges Mattson and Pope.
