Dana M. Warnez, of Center Line, has been sworn in as the chair of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) Representative Assembly for 2012-2013. Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Michael J. Riordan officiated at the Thursday, Sept. 20, ceremony held during the SBM Annual Meeting at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.
The 150-member Representative Assembly (RA) is the final policy-making body of the State Bar. It was created in 1971 by the Michigan Supreme Court at the request of SBM’s Board of Commissioners in order to increase geographical representation and member participation in SBM policy.
Warnez was first elected to the RA in 2005 and she represents the 16th Circuit. She served as chair of the District D Character and Fitness Committee from 2007-2009 and as a member from 2005-2007. She also served as the representative liaison to the State Bar Law-Related Education and Public Outreach Committee.
Warnez is also active with the Macomb County Bar Association, and has served as a board member and chair of the Young Lawyers Section, and the Macomb County Bar Foundation, where she chairs both the Kimberly M. Cahill Memorial Fund and the Scholarship Committee. She is also a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, a case evaluation panelist for the Macomb County Probate Court, and a hearing panelist on the State Bar’s Attorney Discipline Board.
Since 1996, Warnez has been in private practice with Schoenherr, Cahill, & Warnez, which specializes in probate and estate planning, family law, commercial and residential real estate transaction, and real estate development.
She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1993, and received her law degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law in 1996.
