New resort-style village for seniors a significant investment in Oakland County

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson thanked Dr. Farideh R. Bagne, president and CEO of Magnolia by the Lakes, for her $48 million investment in Oakland County that will create a plush senior village where residents will have access to health care, retail shops and restaurants, and resort-style living. Patterson and Bagne took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for Magnolia by the Lakes last Friday on Cass Lake Road in Keego Harbor with Mayor Sidney Rubin and other community leaders. "Your $48 million investment in Oakland County will enhance the quality of life in the region through better care and living options for seniors and will be a significant boost to Keego Harbor and its business community," Patterson said. Bagne designed Magnolia by the Lakes to enable seniors to enjoy an indoor resort-style village and all of its amenities without having to go outside during the winter months. "Magnolia by the Lakes is a new concept of bringing luxury and convenience to senior residents while 'removing' the winter conditions of Michigan so residents can live in an all-indoor village during the winter months," Bagne said. "They do not have to leave Michigan for warmer clients during the winter months." Three buildings will be part of Magnolia on the Lakes: * There will be an elder care and assisted living facility nearby. * The Mercury Building on Cass Lake Road will be renovated to include doctors' offices, physical therapy, a beauty salon, barber shop and spa. The second floor will have a fountain, trees and flowers, tables and chairs with the feel of Europe. There will be a French bakery, a bistro, Italian gelato shop, and an Irish pub. * Across from the Mercury Building and connected to it by an enclosed bridge will be the resort-style villas where residents will be able watch the sun rise on Sylvan Lake and set on Cass Lake. The building will include a formal dining room, activity and conference room, rooftop garden, billiard room, library, and a chapel. There will be 155 villas. "Magnolia by the Lakes is going to have an immeasurable positive effect in our city," Rubin said. "It will attract other investment, allow the city to achieve its goals and objectives, and improve the business climate." Also attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Keego Harbor Police Chief Kenneth Hurst, Head of The Roeper School David Feldman, and a representative from the office U.S. Rep. Gary Peters.
