On Monday, April 27, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners welcomed 10th-12th grade high school students from the communities of Ferndale, Madison Heights, Milford, Oak Park, Pontiac, Rochester, Royal Oak, Southfield, Walled Lake, and White Lake for the annual Youth in Government Day. In recognition of National County Government Month, this year’s theme was “Counties Moving America Forward: The Keys are Transportation and Infrastructure.” As part of the students’ experience, members of the Oakland County Circuit Court bench took part in a panel discussion. Among those speaking were (l-r) Chief Judge Nanci Grant, and Judges Lisa Gorcyca, Lisa Langton, and Daniel Patrick O’Brien. “Giving young people insight on the judicial branch of government provides them with a realistic view of what we do. For 35 years, Youth in Government Day has opened the door for good and honest dialogue among students and elected officials,” Grant said. Students also met the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Brown, Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard, Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner, Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash, and Oakland County Chief Information Officer/Deputy County Executive Phil Bertolini as a representative from the County Executive’s Office.
