Probation Department to host Community Resources Fair Aug. 9
The U.S. Probation Department for the Eastern District of Michigan will host a Community Resource Fair on Friday, Aug. 9, to help returning citizens, veterans and anyone seeking resources related to employment and housing assistance, legal and financial issues, mental health and substance abuse, physical health, and much more. There will be food, entertainment, raffles, and free backpacks for the kids. The event is free to the public.
The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 20800 Grand River Avenue in Detroit.
Services will include free health screens by the Detroit Medical Center, onsite dental exams and teeth cleaning by Mobile Dentists, job readiness and job recruitment provided by Detroit at Work, utility bill counseling from DTE Energy, educational and vocational services, as well as services offered by a diverse host of organizations that offer specialized services to meet a variety of needs.
The Wayne County Friend of the Court will offer child support assistance in a warrant-free setting.
The following organizations are sponsoring the event: U.S. Probation Department; Christ The King Catholic Church; Sienna Literacy; and St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center.

Annual Autonomous Vehicle Legal Forum offered Sept. 10
Benchmark Litigation and Managing IP will host the 3rd annual Autolex: Autonomous Vehicle Legal Forum on Tuesday, Sept.10, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, 1114 Washington Blvd. in Detroit.
This one-day forum will focus on the disruptive changes occurring in the automobile industry as autonomous vehicles become a reality. Attendees will hear from some of the top in-house and law firm automobile lawyers discussing litigation, IP, insurance, and transactional issues.
Speakers will discuss solutions to the top challenges facing the autonomous vehicle legal industry, including: regulations (or lack thereof); allocation of risk/safety/ insurance; developing industrywide performance standards; uncertainties around autonomous business models; entry of non-traditional competitors; and defending against the enforcement of SEPs, particularly relating to communication standards.
The Detroit Bar Association is an association partner sponsor of the event, which offers networking during coffee breaks, lunch and a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m.
