Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash and his office of Volunteer Ambassadors’ “Band of Superheroes” welcomed Herrington Elementary School students back to school on Tuesday, September 7. The superheroes and Commissioner Nash joined community leaders to greet students as they walked into the school building located at 541 Bay Street in Pontiac, Michigan.
For the second year, the Oakland County Water Resources Volunteer Ambassadors’ Superheroes made their appearance and encouraged students to get ready for the school year. This was a much-needed morale booster for many of the children who were learning virtually during the pandemic last year.
The mission, as a partner with the school, the Pontiac School District and Genisys Credit Union has been to bring cheer and excitement to the children to make their day memorable and special. In-kind donations of masks courtesy of the Michigan Rural Water Association, and items such as pencils, erasers and water educational bookmarks were provided courtesy of the Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s office. The WRC Superheroes and Nash gave free masks, pencils, and other school supply items to the students.
The 2022 Kids’ Calendar contest artwork entry forms for 4th and 5th graders, and the 2021 Kids’ Clean Water Calendars were also given away. Artwork entries and the forms for the calendar contest are due by Friday, October 8. For additional information about the contest, email calendarcontest@gmail.com.
