Jury convicts Oak Park Man of kidnapping, rape, assault

In June of 2019 the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged Martell Dennis, 35 of Oak Park, with Kidnapping, four counts of Criminal Sexual Assault in the First Degree and Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm. On Monday, a 12-member jury unanimously convicted Dennis of all charges.

The charges against Dennis stem from a 2019 assault against his former girlfriend. Oakland County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kimberly Woodard presented the case to the jury during a two and a half-day trial, calling seven witnesses and admitting forty-three pieces of evidence.

The twelve jurors deliberated for one day before finding Dennis guilty of all charges.  Woodard commended the jury and acknowledged the impact on the victim, saying “[t]he jury reached the correct verdict.  I am happy that the victim received the justice she deserved, especially after such a lengthy delay due to COVID.”

Dennis’s bond was revoked and he remains in custody.  He will be sentenced by Judge Martha Anderson on December 16 at 10:30 a.m.
