Law firm sponsored Polar Plunge raises $22,900 for Special Olympics of Michigan

Howard & Howard led a local fundraising initiative which donated a total of $22,900 to the Special Olympics of Michigan during last month’s annual Winter Blast held in downtown Royal Oak. The firm sponsored the cold weather festival’s Polar Plunge, where monetary pledges were made in support of those people brave and generous enough to jump into freezing water for a good cause.

As a firm, Howard & Howard raised more than $7,000 for the Special Olympics of Michigan through pledges made by firm employees, family, friends and colleagues supporting its 10-member Polar Plunge team. A portion of the total was raised through Howard & Howard’s internal Spirit Week initiative, which included a Valentine’s Day bake sale, a pizza party and a chili cookoff.

The firm also donated an additional $2,500 to the Special Olympics of Michigan through its Community Reinvestment Fund.

“We’re pleased and proud that we were able to be part of the first Winter Blast in Royal Oak,” said Howard & Howard President Pat McCarthy. “Many of our employees, their families and friends stepped-up and generously pledged support for the Special Olympics of Michigan. It was a fun and successful event and we look forward to participating in future Winter Blasts.”

The mission of the Special Olympics of Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Athletes develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy while participating in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship among their families, Special Olympics athletes and the community. The athletes achieve their dreams with support of caring volunteers, coaches, family members and staff. Donations from Michigan citizens and businesses provide funding for the program.
