The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan's Violence Against Women Project will welcome Danielle Walton from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office Appellate Division for an afternoon webinar discussing the Michigan Sex Offender Registry (SORA).
The lunchtime webinar "SORA: Where are we now?" will take place Thursday, December 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Walton will be discussing the history of Michigan's Sex Offender Registry, from its creation toPeople v Betts, and the passage of the new SORA. She will be covering what prosecutions under the old SORA are permitted and which are prohibited under the Supreme Court decision in People v Betts, 507 Mich 527 (2021) and the federal injunction. She will be touching on the recent case law concerning challenges to both the old and new SORA as well as the new federal lawsuit.
This webinar will be hosted on the Zoom Platform.
