Fred Cavaiani
When I rush to the next moment, I will be tense and anxious.
Hurrying to the next moment creates anxiety and becomes a distraction from living a peaceful life.
The obstacles to happiness block me from experiencing joy and peace. These obstacles happen when I get in a rush and obsess about what might happen next. It is like when someone who is driving ahead of you drives at a very slow pace. Even though I may not be in a hurry, I can find myself wanting to drive faster and worry about how quick I will get to my destination because someone is blocking me from driving faster. For some unknown reason I think I should drive faster.
The obstacles to an inner peace and happiness surface when I rush through life.
When I refuse to gently live in this present moment, I create tension in my mind, heart, and body. Rushing through life never helps me.
Slowly experiencing what is going on at this moment inside of me can be so helpful because I then become more aware of life. When I cease rushing through life, profound and amazing things begin to be experienced by me. As I am typing this article, I could be obsessing over what will happen in the Lions-Viking football game today. All that does is to make me tense and anxious. If I simply experience this moment, my whole body begins to slow down and relaxes.
When I embrace each moment of life slowly and reflectively, my body and mind relax and I gain immediate insight into life. This is a fundamental principle to living a healthy life.
Life is meant to be lived simply. Tension in life can easily be dropped when I stop rushing through life. This sounds so simple to do but it is really quite difficult if I think that worrying about the next moment is the appropriate way to live. When I become distracted from living life slowly and reflectively, I miss so much in life. The gentle embrace of this present moment is the doorway to enter into a gentle receptivity and experience of this present moment.
When I refuse to walk through life gently and slowly, I miss so much. It is a most rewarding experience to talk with someone who is not in a hurry and simply wants to pay attention to me.
The two big obstacles to happiness are 1) rushing to the next moment and 2) the refusal to gently embrace this present moment. It is in this moment that I discover meaning, peace and joy.
Life is quite simple. But I can complicate life so quickly. When I refuse to complicate life, I will discover an inner peace that will bring me a positive and uplifting attitude about life on this planet.
But this profound discovery happens only in the slow embrace of this exact moment. Now is the moment of happiness which needs to be slowly embraced.
