State Oversight Academy launches Oversight Training Program

On Wednesday, the Carl Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy at Wayne State University Law School’s State Oversight Academy (SOA) launched its online Oversight Training Program. The first one of its kind, this course brings the SOA workshop to state legislators and staff on demand and at their own pace.

Over nine lessons, participants will learn how to conduct bipartisan, fact-based oversight investigations using various avenues. Each lesson includes an instructional video (typically 20 to 40 minutes long), examples of best practices in the states, and a short assignment that allows participants to consider how to apply concepts to issues facing their own state.

The Oversight Training Program also features interviews with practitioners and academics, recommended readings, and other resources.

Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and micro credentials that can be added to LinkedIn profiles and other websites. To register for the free Oversight Training Program, visit https://levin-center.org/state-oversight-academy/oversight-training-program.

The Levin Center launched SOA in March 2023. SOA is the first and only national institution dedicated to promoting effective bipartisan fact-finding and oversight by state legislatures as essential to good governance and democracy.
