LAD cancels Aug. 24 family law training for pro bono attorneys
Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. has canceled a basic family law training session for new practicing attorneys in Wayne County scheduled for Aug. 24 at LAD headquarters, 613 Abbott St. 

The organization plans to conduct the session at a later date, according to Roger Lennert, vice president of marketing and development.

Attorney elected vice chair of Michigan Humane Society board
Miller Canfield principal Beverly Hall Burns was elected to serve as vice chair of the board of directors of the Michigan Humane Society.

The Michigan Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization and is the largest and oldest such organization in the state, caring for more than 100,000 animals each year.

At Miller Canfield, Burns is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Group, representing and advocating for employers, whether at the negotiating table, in hearings, in board rooms, or community gatherings. She is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers for her work as a labor and employment attorney.
Burns received a B.A. in English from Michigan State University and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. She resides in  Grosse Pointe.

“ABA Tech Roadshow” coming to Michigan
Michigan is only the second state to be given the honor of hosting the ABA ‘Tech Roadshow.’  The Michigan Association for Justice will host the event in Dearborn on Oct. 1 at The Henry — An Autograph Collection Hotel (formerly the Ritz-Carlton). The event is an opportunity to learn all of the greatest technology tips to use at trial and enjoy popular sessions such as ‘45 Websites in 45 minutes’ and ‘30 technology and management tips in 30 minutes.’

The seminar will offer two tracks and will have two seminar rooms with two simultaneous speakers on two separate topics. Bring an associate because multiple attendees from the same firm receive a discount.  Anyone can attend, you do not have to be an MAJ member or attorney. MAJ is flying in nationally recognized legal technology experts to compliment the

Michigan technology experts and attorneys presenters. Presentations will include: Going paperless — digital dictation; PDFing for lawyers — Speech recognition software; failsafe backups; popular software tips/tricks — e-faxing and Skype; dual monitors; disaster planning; video conferencing; latest courtroom tech tools; social networks; 7 tech-must haves for superlative client service; office management; mobile office and remote access, and more.
