Plante & Moran attorney awarded Joe D. Sutton Call to Justice Award
   Joe Cunningham, a long-time partner at Plante & Moran, PLLC, has received the 2011 Joe D. Sutton Call to Justice Award from Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. in the category of Contributions to Law and Aging. ELM is a nonprofit charitable organization that promotes and protects the rights, health and economic well-being of older adults and people with disabilities, providing information, advocacy, legal advice and professional services.
  Cunningham works in Plante & Moran’s valuation services area, where he specializes in business valuation, divorce taxation, and marital settlements.  As a leader of the Michigan State Bar’s Michigan Litigation Assistance Partnership Program (MI LAPP), Cunningham has participated in preparing hundreds of Qualified Domestic Relations Orders for low income families to ensure their economic security in retirement. Additionally, he serves on the Finance-Audit Committee of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.
  Cunningham and his fellow honorees will receive their awards at a reception to be held on April 1, 2011 at the Country Club of Lansing.

Women’s Bar Association to host ‘Evening to Wine Down’ March 24
  The Oakland County Women's Bar Association (WBA) will host its fifth annual “Evening to Wine Down” Thursday, March 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. at BlackFinn Restaurant & Saloon, 530 S. Main St. in Royal Oak.
  Tickets for the networking and socializing event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door for members, $25 in advance and $30 at the door for non-members, and $10 in advance and $15 at the door for law students. Admission includes appetizers and one glass of wine. A cash bar with drinks specials will be available.

DMBA Barristers Night with the Detroit Derby Girls March 19
  Michelle T. Thomas, a member of the DMBA Barristers Board of Directors, is a member of the Devil’s Night Dames, where she is known as Swift Justice, No. 10 to life. Join the DMBA Barristers in cheering “Swifty” to victory as the Devil’s Night Dames take on the Detroit Pistoffs on March 19 at Cobo Arena. Doors open at 5 p.m. Bout 1 (D-Funk Allstars vs. Pistolwhippers) starts at 6:30 p.m. Bout 2 (Devil’s Night Dames vs. Detroit Pistoffs) starts at 8 p.m. Admission for children 12 and under is free. All other tickets are $12.
