Ayar elected president of Chaldean-American Bar Association
Alexander A. Ayar, a commercial litigation attorney at the law firm Foster Swift Collins and Smith, P.C. has been elected to serve as the 2011-2012 President of the Chaldean-American Bar Association.

“I am very honored to have been elected by my peers to serve as president, and I am looking forward to carrying out the responsibilities of the office,” said Ayar.

Ayar is an attorney in Foster Swift’s Commercial Litigation Group, and is admitted to practice law in all Michigan state courts as well as in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Ayar earned his Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School. During his legal studies, he interned for Chief United States District Court Judge Gerald E. Rosen, was a Moot Court recipient of an award for Excellence in Oral Advocacy, and was the president of the St. Thomas More Society.  Ayar’s Bachelor of Science degree in Economics was awarded with honors by Oakland University.

The Chaldean-American Bar Association sponsors a yearly, needs-based scholarship program, and provides its membership with benefits that include legal seminar presentations and networking events.

Miller Canfield lawyer receives Barrister of the Year award

Miller Canfield lawyer Tamira Cason Chapman, an associate in the Detroit office, was recently honored by the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association (DMBA) with the prestigious Barrister of the Year Award. The Award is presented annually to a member of the Barristers board who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the development and execution of Barristers’ programming.  

At Miller Canfield, Chapman assists clients in securing and safeguarding their intellectual capital in the United States and abroad, including copyrights, trademarks, word marks, service marks, domain names and other related rights. 

She received her J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and her B.A. from Michigan State University. She resides in metro Detroit.

‘Call for Action’ seeks volunteer attorneys

Volunteer attorneys are being sought by WXYZ-TV Channel 7’s Call for Action.

Every Thursday volunteer attorneys come to the Channel 7 offices to answer incoming calls regarding legal matters. Attorneys remain anonymous to callers and do not take cases for themselves.  Anyone interested in volunteering should call (248) 827-1108.
