Jaffe attorney receives Jewish Federation’s Fred M. Butzel Award
Peter Alter, a partner with Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C., has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Fred M. Butzel Award for Distinguished Community Service from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

Established in 1951, the Fred M. Butzel Award is recognized as the highest honor the Detroit Jewish Community can bestow upon its leaders.  Alter received the award during the Jewish Federation’s Annual Meeting on Oct. 5.

Alter served as president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit from 2004-2007 and is the immediate past chairman of its Executive Committee.

He is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group and focuses his practice in the area of complex commercial litigation, with particular expertise in real estate, banking, partnership, insurance law and shareholder disputes. He is a 1969 magna cum laude graduate of Brandeis University and a 1972 graduate of Columbia University Law School. Alter has been regularly selected by his peers as one of the top lawyers in Michigan.

Alter is the current president of the Oakland County Bar Association. He also serves as Master and member of the Executive Committee of the American Inn of Court-Oakland County Chapter.

Jackson Lewis attorney Jenkins inducted into prestigious legal group
Jackson Lewis LLP Managing Partner Maurice Jenkins was recently honored with one of the nation’s most prestigious professional distinctions bestowed upon those in the legal profession. On Oct. 22, Jenkins was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), widely considered the premier professional organization of preeminent trial lawyers in the United States and Canada.

Founded in 1950, the American College of Trial Lawyers is comprised of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is limited to the top one percent of the total lawyer population of any state or province.

The induction ceremony occurred Oct. 22 at the ACTL Annual Meeting in La Quinta, Calif.

Jenkins is managing partner of Jackson Lewis in Detroit and has practiced labor and employment law for more than 29 years. Jenkins serves on the Board of Trustees for Michigan State University College of Law and Henry Ford Health System in West Bloomfield.
