Goodfellow Fund of Detroit to honor A. Alfred Taubman  
The Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit will honor American real estate developer and Michigan philanthropist A. Alfred Taubman at the charity’s 23rd annual Tribute Breakfast on Oct. 19 at Cobo Center. Taubman will receive the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award at the 8 a.m. event.  The “Great Voice of the Great Lakes” WJR, a major sponsor of the event, will broadcast portions of the breakfast live during The Paul W. Smith Show. 

The Edward H. McNamara Award is an honor presented to distinguished and noteworthy individuals who have significantly contributed to the community. As a philanthropist, Taubman has shown continuous support of civic, cultural and educational initiatives to aid and strengthen Detroit and its people. 

“The Detroit Goodfellows is privileged to be honoring A. Alfred Taubman with the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award,” said Ken Neal, president, Detroit Goodfellows. “We’re recognizing Mr. Taubman because as a prominent businessman and philanthropist he has shown ongoing and unwavering commitment and support to the Detroit community, which is in line with our organization’s purpose.”

Previous recipients of the Edward H. McNamara Goodfellow of the Year Award include internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, philanthropist and native Detroiter Kid Rock and Kid Rock Foundation, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ford Motor Company Alan Mulally, Detroit broadcast legend Dick Purtan, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger, Judge Damon Keith, Mayor Dave Bing, Detroit Tigers Manager Sparky Anderson, Governor Jennifer Granholm, and Lisa and William Clay Ford.

Tickets for the benefit event are $150 or $1,500 for a table of 10. There are also special $5,000 Santa Circle tables available. Additional corporate sponsorships are also available.

FBA lunch series starts with ‘State of the Court
The Federal Bar Association kicks off its 2012-13 luncheon series with the annual “State of the Court Luncheon” in the Woodward Ballroom of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel on Friday, Sept, 14, at 1114 Washington Blvd. in Detroit. An 11:30 a.m. reception and noon lunch are planned. Featured speaker will be Chief Judge Gerald E. Rosen with the “State of the Court” address. Cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Law firm sponsorship opportunities are still available for the opening luncheon and the three luncheons in the series that will be held in the coming months. Holiday Hours
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will be closed today, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.

The Third Circuit Court Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.

The Wayne County Probate Court will be closed in observance of Labor Day today, Sept. 3 and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 8 a.m.

In observance of Labor Day, the 36th District Court will be closed to the public today, Sept. 3. Only criminal arraignments will be conducted.
