Fieger to speak at NAACP chapter’s annual Freedom Fund Dinner
The Southern Oakland County chapter of the NAACP announced Monday that attorney Geoffrey Fieger will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Freedom Fund Dinner, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Westin Hotel in Southfield.
Fieger, a senior partner and founder of the Oakland County based law firm Fieger, Fieger, Kenney, Johnson & Giroux has a national profile and is in demand as an analyst for high-profile media trials.
This year’s SOC Freedom Fund dinner theme is “Standing United for Civil Rights and Justice for All.” The program will also include the first annual “Civil Rights Hall of Fame” honoring six individuals from the Southern Oakland County area who have made a significant contribution to civil rights, within the last 10 years.
The Southern Oakland County, Michigan chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was chartered in 1982, under the national organization by former Assistant Attorney General Robert Willis and fellow associates. The mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
“We must continue the fight for racial justice and economic parity in an effort to eliminate poverty,” said Chapter President Gwen Thomas. “We must continue to stand united until there is an equal playing field and equal liberties for African Americans who are employees, business owners, students, consumers and citizens of America.”
General dinner tickets for the event are $85; VIP tickets are $125. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
