Labor and Employment Section plans meeting for January at DAC

The annual Mid-Winter Meeting of the Labor and Employment Section of the State Bar of Michigan will be conducted on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, at the Detroit Athletic Club.
Friday evening will feature cocktails, dinner, and a presentation from author and Ohio State Professor Kevin Boyle who returns to discuss his research and upcoming book about Sacco and Vanzetti. The Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Joseph A. Golden.
The Saturday morning program will include labor and employment law updates, a presentation by EEOC Commissioner Victoria A. Lipnic about the EEOC’s new Strategic Enforcement Plan, and a moderated panel discussion.

MAJ offers seminar Jan. 18 on Workers’ Compensation and Social Security

The Michigan Association for Justice will host a Workers’ Compensation/Social Security seminar in mid-January. The program will feature two nationally recognized legislative reform and advocacy experts: Richard J. Swanson of Macey, Swanson, & Allman in Indianapolis and Henry Patterson of Patterson Harkavy LLP in Chapel Hill, NC.
The seminar will take place Friday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westin Hotel, 1500 Town Center in Southfield.
Lisa Welton of Law Offices of Lisa A. Welton, Jeff Appel of Law Offices of Jefferey S. Appel, and Robert MacDonald of MacDonald, FitzGerald, and MacDonald PC will all co-moderate the event.
The topics will include: an update from the WC Agency, issue updates on topics from proving disability to agency form compliance, and legislative updates about changes that have taken place over the past year.

Holiday Hours

The Third Circuit Court Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed today and Tuesday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
The Michigan Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the State Court Administrative Office will be closed for the holidays today; Tuesday, Dec. 25; Monday, Dec. 31; and Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will be closed today through Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, and will re-open on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013. The following will be open Dec. 26, 27, and 28 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.: Coleman A. Young Municipal Center for  Circuit Court Civil and Family Division filings (Rm. 201) and Personal Protection Orders (Rm. 928); Frank Murphy Hall of Justice Criminal Division. The Lincoln Hall of Justice Juvenile Division will be open from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. only on those days.
