Viviano to deliver keynote address at Cooley orientation

Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus will hold its Professionalism in Action Orientation for incoming law students on today from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano will serve as the keynote speaker and will address a variety of topics, including student development, professionalism and ethics in the legal profession. The orientation will also feature small group discussions where students can sit with expert attorneys and learn about the variety of ethical issues they may face as law students and lawyers.
Justice Viviano was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court by Gov. Rick Snyder in February 2013. He also served as the chief judge on the Macomb County Circuit Court and worked as an attorney for Dickinson Wright law firm in Detroit and Jenner & Block law firm in Chicago.
 


Young Lawyers Section to host Sixth Annual Summit at Greektown

The State Bar of Michigan Young Lawyers Section (YLS) will host its sixth annual Summit June 7-8 at Greektown Casino & Hotel in Detroit.
The Summit is a statewide event designed to foster professional development and establish networking opportunities. It will provide educational seminars, informational programming and social events designed to enhance the skill, knowledge, and understanding young lawyers have of the legal profession. This year the Honorable Dennis W. Archer will serve as the keynote speaker and seminar topics will include criminal law, legal writing, oral advocacy, evidence, depositions, technology, social media and more. The Summit is sponsored by Affinity Consulting Group, Judeh & Associates, Brooks Kushman, Stevenson Keppelman Associates, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.
Attendees of the Summit can also join the YLS at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7 to watch the Detroit Tigers take on the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park. Tickets must be purchased by May 5 for $30 each.
Prior to April 30, the registration fee for the Summit is $45 for section members and $30 for guests. After April 30, registration goes up to $60 for section members and $45 for guests. Section members get access to seminars, meals and the reception. Guests get access to meals and the reception.
