Cooley Law to raise funds for Veterans Treatment Court

The Friends of Macomb County Veterans Treatment Court (FMCVTC) will be the beneficiary of Cooley Law School’s annual spring charity fundraising event. The event, which will feature dinner, music, live comedy and a silent auction, is being held on Sunday, June 2 at Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus beginning at 6 p.m.
The Macomb County Veterans Treatment Court provides alternatives for veterans accused of certain crimes because of issues related to their military service, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The alternative court focuses on recovery issues and adherence to law-abiding behavior by offering veterans legal assistance, mentoring services and mental health and substance abuse treatment. Crimes such as child abuse, rape and murder are not covered by the program.
“We are extremely happy that Cooley Law School decided to name us as this year’s beneficiary of their annual fundraising event,” said Gail Pamukov-Miller, president of the FMCVTC. “All funds raised will go directly to helping veterans complete their court ordered programs.”
FMCVTC was established in 2011 and began operations in 2012. Members of the organization are dedicated to helping those who served in the United States Military by aiding in the efforts of the Macomb County Veterans’ Treatment Court. The non-profit organization is working to increase awareness in the community about the needs of veterans involved in the Veterans’ Treatment Court and raise funds to assist participating veterans so they can successfully complete the program.
“Cooley Law School has long supported our veterans through various programs such as the Cooley Veteran Corp and our Service to Soldiers: Legal Assistance Program,” said Lisa Halushka, Cooley Law School's acting associate dean at the Auburn Hills campus. “The Macomb County Veterans Treatment Court allows individuals, who have served our Country, an opportunity to get help. Many times their actions are a result of circumstances directly related to their service to our country and this is yet another way Cooley can offer support to our veterans.”
The cost to attend the event is $20 for individuals or $130 for a table of 8.  Tickets are available at Cooley’s Auburn Hills campus located at 2630 Featherstone Rd.
