Award established to honor Miller Canfield attorney Dick Seryak

In honor of Miller Canfield Attorney Dick Seryak’s outstanding legal career and his commitment and devotion to pro bono and community service, his widow, Dr. Helene Dombrowski, and his children, Elizabeth Seryak and Dr. Kaitlin Seryak, have established the Richard J. Seryak Award. The purpose of the award is to annually honor a Miller Canfield attorney or professional who exemplifies the high standard of pro bono and community service that Dick Seryak practiced and lived during his entire legal career at Miller Canfield. Dick Seryak’s nearly 40-year career as a leading employment lawyer and litigator at Miller Canfield was marked by a commitment to outstanding client service and devotion to upholding the highest standards of the legal profession.

“We remember Dick by his unparalleled dedication to pro bono and community service, and for exemplifying the highest standards of the legal profession” said Mike McGee, Miller Canfield CEO. “He always kept the best interests of his clients as the axiom that guided his work and he had a particular passion to assist those disadvantaged in our communities who lacked the resources to obtain the legal services they required.”

The Seryak Award will be presented annually to a Miller Canfield attorney or professional who exemplifies the high tradition of pro bono and community service that Dick Seryak practiced during his career at Miller Canfield.  The annual recipient will be honored on a plaque to be maintained at the Miller Canfield headquarters in Detroit, will receive an individual plaque signifying the honor and will also receive a stipend provided by the Seryak family.  The selection will be made by the firm’s Pro Bono Committee in consultation with the firm’s CEO and the Seryak family and the award will be announced to the firm and publicized during the fall of each year.
