Man seeking jail guard’s job busted for cartoon sex video

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a western New York man seeking to become a jail guard has been charged with encouraging students on a school bus to watch a video showing a cartoon film character performing sex acts.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old David Dole of Buffalo applied to be a guard in the county jail. During a background check, deputies learned Dole was wanted by police in nearby Hamburg for trying to get students on a bus he was driving to watch a YouTube video with “a popular animated movie character performing sexually explicit acts.”

Dole was arrested and turned over to Hamburg police. It wasn’t clear Thursday if he has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.

Police aren’t saying which character was depicted in the video.

Federal prosecutors handle stolen-gun-in-theater case

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania prosecutor has dropped state charges against a Georgia man accused of carrying a stolen gun and ammunition into a movie theater, clearing the way for a federal charge to be prosecuted.

Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier says 21-year-old William Gossett of Covington, Georgia, remained jailed Thursday on a federal detainer.

Gossett was arrested July 23 at the Cinemark Theater in Center Township, Pennsylvania, and charged with receiving stolen property and carrying an unlicensed firearm. Police say they spotted him wearing fatigues and searched a bag he was carrying.

A federal grand jury has since charged Gossett with illegally possessing the gun. Gossett has an identity theft conviction in Georgia and can’t have weapons.

Gossett doesn’t have an attorney and has yet to appear in federal court.

Man arrested in killing after woman browses website

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police arrested a suspect in a 16-year-old homicide after a woman browsing the “most wanted” section of the Los Angeles Police Department website recognized a man she knew and called a tip line, authorities said.

Samuel Calvario, 45, was arrested last week in the shooting death of 31-year-old Daniel Felix in 2000 after he intervened in an argument between Calvario and his then-girlfriend, investigators said Wednesday.

The charges faced by Calvario include murder, assault with a firearm and kidnapping, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Officer Deen Alcaraz told the Times that Calvario eluded arrest for so long by assuming a new identity.

The woman who recently spotted Calvario on the LAPD website left an anonymous message on a tip line about his whereabouts.

Alcaraz said he’s never had a suspect identified by someone browsing the website. Still, he said the case underscores the role the public can play in solving crimes.
“This caller did a great justice,” he told the newspaper.
