Ohio attorney to receive ABA Solo and Small Firm Lifetime Achievement Award

The American Bar Association Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division will honor Michael P. Hurley with its 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of outstanding solo and small firm practitioners as well as bar leaders and associations.

The award will be presented to Hurley at the Solo and Small Firm awards luncheon on Friday, May 19, during the 2017 Joint Spring Meeting at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Hurley is a partner in the law firm of Nelson, Sweet & Hurley, in Painesville, Ohio. He serves on the ABA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division Council and is the past chair of the division's Newsletter Editors' Conference, past chair of its Business and Financial Planning Committee, past chair of its Rainmaking Committee, past chair and current member of its Book Publications Board, past chair of its Contents Committee, co-chair of its Senior Lawyer Committee and member of its Long Range Planning Committee.

Hurley is a past member of the Board of Governors of the Ohio State Bar Association, representing Ohio State Bar Association District 18, and is a member and past chair of the Ohio State Bar Association Solo, Small Firm & General Practice Section Board of Governors. He also served as editor of its Solo, Small Firms and General Practice News since its inception in 1989. He is a member and past president of the Lake County, Ohio, Bar Association and currently chairs its Arbitration Committee. An Army veteran, Hurley received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Bronze Star Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster).
