McQuade Honored

The U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Michigan, hosted an event honoring former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade (center) on Thursday, April 20, at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. On hand to thank McQuade for her years of service were Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Mulcahy (left) and U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman (right). McQuade was appointed as U.S. attorney in 2010 by then President Barack Obama. She was the first woman to serve as the U.S. attorney in Michigan’s Eastern District. She worked on many high profile cases like the “Underwear Bomber” incident of Christmas Day 2009 and the prosecution of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick who was charged, convicted, and sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for his role in a public corruption scandal. McQuade is preparing to join the faculty at her alma mater, the University of Michigan Law School, where she plans to teach in the fields of criminal law, criminal procedure, and national security.
