Runners, walkers took to the streets Sunday

Scores of runners and walkers turned out for the 39th Annual Race Judicata on October 14 at ­Birmingham Covington School in Bloomfield Hills. The event, which featured a 5-kilometer run and a 5-km walk, is presented annually by the Oakland County Bar Association.

Jeffrey Hicks of Grosse Ile took top honors in the 5-km race for males, cruising to a first place time of 17:47, a 5:44 per mile pace over the 3.1-mile distance. Runner-up in the men’s race was Dominic Schmidt, who posted a time of 18:26. Placing third was Spencer Mistele in 18:40. The top female runner on Sunday was Erica Shell of Franklin, who crossed first in 19:29, a 6:17 per mile pace. Placing second for women was Laura DePonio of Birmingham in a time of 21:48. Evelyn Joy was third in 22:58.

In the team competition, a three-runner squad from Maddin Hauser claimed first place honors with a combined time of 1:05:20. Members of the winning team were James Reid (20:12), R.J. Cronkhitem (21:23), and Kevin Henry (23:48). Placing second, some 15 seconds behind, was the Bodman team of Erica Shell, Christian Chimner (21:32), and Anthony Finn (24:34).
