Legal Referral Service to present Nessel for online discussion

Legal Referral Service, a program of Jewish Family Service, will welcome Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel for a timely discussion on the role of the attorney general and how it impacts the citizens of the state of Michigan.

“People’s Attorney: The Role of Michigan’s Attorney General in Today’s World” will take place online Thursday, May 20, beginning at 6 p.m. via Zoom.  A Q&A will follow the discussion.

To register for this Zoom event and submit a question, visit jfsdetroit.org/LRS or contact Emily Croitori at 248-592-2317 or ecroitori@jfsdetroit.org

This program is made possible with the support of the Oakland County Bar Foundation.

Special Grand Hotel package available for Michigan attorneys through State Bar

A special Grand Hotel room and dining package is currently available to Michigan attorneys on a first-come, first-served basis. The package is available from June 10 to 13 because, due to the ongoing pandemic, the State Bar of Michigan canceled this year’s Bar Leadership Forum (BLF) and Upper Michigan Legal Institute (UMLI). While the cancellation of this important programming is unfortunate, it does give Michigan attorneys a unique opportunity to take advantage of SBM’S special rate at the iconic Mackinac Island hotel.

The package includes lodging as well as breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Anyone interested in taking advantage of this opportunity should fill out and submit the form available at www.michbar.org/file/generalinfo/pdfs/grandhotel_form.pdf and send it directly to the hotel as soon as possible. Reservations are filling up quickly. If there are any unsold rooms after May 11, they will be released for sale at full price to the general public.

Volunteers needed for virtual Face of Justice event on June 1

The State Bar of Michigan is seeking volunteer attorneys for an upcoming virtual Face of Justice event, which is designed to teach high school students about the legal profession and to pique their interest as they consider their future. The program’s primary focus is a “jet-mentoring” component designed to give high school students the opportunity to interact with a variety of legal professionals.

Mentors are needed for the June 1 program with Southfield Public Schools. Since the event is being held virtually, attorneys from across the state are encouraged to participate. Mentors will need to commit to three?hours?on the day of the event and?one?hour?preparation ahead of the event.

Anyone interested in mentoring in this virtual environment should fill out the form at www.surveymonkey.com/r/5RQTVPL.
