State - Cassopolis Stimulus money aids Cass, Saginaw counties with water system work

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (AP) -- Cass County in rural southwestern Michigan is getting a $10.5 federal loan for improvements to water service for residents and firefighting.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Vilsack says the money comes from a new series of federal stimulus funding to communities in 18 states totaling $96.5 million.

The Cass County project will pay for hydrants and other water system infrastructure. It will extend water service to 1,800 housing units.

In central Michigan, the federal department says Saginaw County is getting $4.5 million for wastewater system improvements.
