Job Description: The Municipal Claims Adjuster investigates, analyzes exposure, adjusts values, timely and effectively documents and communicates all claim activity, and properly resolves less complex property damage/loss and bodily injury claims against the City of Detroit, with moderate supervision.  Duties also include reviewing files, functioning as a liaison between the City and its Third Party Administrator, communicating with claimants, insurers and attorneys, some driving of a City owned vehicle, and filing of pleadings at local courts.

• Minimum of five (5) years of adjusting auto and non-auto personal injury and property damage claims.  Auto and non-auto personal injury and property damage claims typically involve highway defect (street and sidewalk), No-Fault and mini-tort.
• The Municipal Claims Adjuster must handle claims consistent with the City’s policies, procedures and practices, and in accordance with any statutory, regulation and ethics requirements.
• Ability to prioritize claim related functions, interpret claims related documentation and successfully negotiate the settlement and disposition of claims.
• Strong customer service, collaborative, problem-solving, time management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills (verbal and written).
• The highly motivated candidate must be able to work at a full case load capacity.
• Ability to work in a diverse, dynamic team environment.
• The qualified candidate must also have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and safely operate a motor vehicle in order to occasionally visit the City’s repair facility for maintenance of the city owned vehicle, and visit local sites for basic inspections or local courts for filing of pleadings.
