Two Davison High School students selected as Judge Marable's Students of the Month

Flint 68th District Judge Herman Marable, Jr. and his Citizens Advisory Committee announced recently that Davison High School students J. Clinton Rooker, 16, and Emily Helm, 16,  have been selected as Judge Marable’s Students of the Month for April and May 2011. Helm presently attends Stony Creek High School in Rochester Hills.

These students were selected by Judge Marable’s Citizens Advisory Committee on the basis of their applications and essays about their career goals. Clinton is looking forward to a career in the legal field. He has a strong interest in reading, running, and physical fitness. At school he is on the varsity football, track, and wrestling teams. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council Secretary, Prom Committee Chairperson, and a math tutor at school.

Emily would like to pursue a career as a lawyer and judge.  She enjoys reading, drawing, community service, history and Spanish. She is a member of Key Club International.

As Students of the Month, each honoree will receive a $75.00 U.S. Savings Bond, a trophy, a certificate, and will be invited to shadow Judge Marable for a day at the Court while he performs his official duties. The honorees names have been engraved on a plaque on permanent display at the 68th District Courthouse.

The Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year program was established by Judge Marable and his Citizens Advisory Committee in 2004 to encourage Flint area high school students to focus on academic achievement and career goals. Each month during the school year a 10th grade student is recognized and awarded a $75.00 savings bond, trophy, and certificate based on the completion of an application and essay about their career goals. One of the monthly awardees from the 2010-2011 school year will be selected as Student of the Year and will receive a $500.00 savings bond.

Tenth grade students who are residents of Flint or Genesee County, or who attend public, charter, or private schools located in the county are eligible to apply for the Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year Award. Further information and applications are available from high school guidance counselors, principals, or from the  www.judgemarable.net website or by calling (810) 597-7795.
