Chief Judge delivers annual 'State of the Court' address

The Federal Bar Association’s Annual State of the Court Luncheon took place September 21 at the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit, featuring a keynote address by Chief Judge Denise Page Hood of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Hood, who succeeded Gerald Rosen as chief judge in January 2016, previously served on the state court benches of the 36th District Court, the Recorder’s Court, and the Wayne County Circuit Court. Former Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Detroit, Hood earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and her juris doctor from Columbia University School of Law. A past president of the Detroit Bar Association, Chief Judge Hood has won numerous honors over the course of her legal career, including the 2016 Damon J. Keith Soul and Spirit Humanitarian Award and The Michigan Chronicle’s 2016 “Women of Excellence” award.
