Applications sought for Grand Rapids Bar Association/Floyd Skinner Bar Association minority clerkships

The Grand Rapids Bar Association's Clerkship Committee, in conjunction with the Floyd Skinner Bar Association (FSBA), is striving to increase the number of minority attorneys in the Grand Rapids area. The program is designed to offer minority law students an opportunity to participate in summer clerkship/associate programs with Grand Rapids law firms and other legal employers.
Law students who have completed their first year are invited to apply for the program if they attend a Michigan law school or if they are native to the Grand Rapids area and attended high school or college here -- in other words, those who might realistically be encouraged to return to Grand Rapids to practice law. Members of the FSBA review applications and hold interviews.
For more information on minority clerkships, contact Kim Coleman at 616-454-5550 or kimc@grbar.org.

Applications are due the first Tuesday in February. Interviews are scheduled for the first Saturday in March, and take place at the Grand Rapids Campus of Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

GRBA volunteering

As a New Year’s reminder, the Grand Rapids Bar Association is always seeking volunteers to assist on standing committees as well as on its Speakers Bureau. GRBA receives numerous requests for lecturers and writers. Volunteers may be asked to speak at section meetings, public and private schools, retirement communities and other community organizations. Writers may be asked to write articles on a law-related subject for a newsletter or other publication.

For more information, including a list of committee openings and Speakers Bureau applications, visit www.grbar.org and click on volunteer opportunities in the menu across the top.  For committee service, you may also call the Executive Director, Kim Coleman at 616-454-5550.
