MAJ endorses Judge Murphy for Michigan Supreme Court

On Aug. 18, Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals William B. Murphy received the endorsement of the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ). The Board voted unanimously to support Murphy for one of two eight-year spots on the November ballot.

“I can’t imagine a better candidate for the Supreme Court than Judge Murphy,” said MAJ President Scott Goodwin. “His experience, knowledge and passion for the law is second to none. He will bring a well-reasoned and thought-
ful perspective to the Court.”

Judge Murphy, a past president of MAJ, was appointed to the Michigan Court of Appeals in 1988 by Gov. Jim Blanchard. Five years ago the Michigan Supreme Court appointed him chief judge of Michigan’s second highest court. Under his leadership, the court has undertaken an aggressive overhaul of court business practices, making the court a national leader in efficiency. Murphy also serves as an adjunct professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and serves on the Executive Committee of the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal.

“Judge Murphy belongs on the Mount Rushmore of judges in this state,” Goodwin continued. “We are fortunate to have such a brilliant mind running for the Supreme Court.”
