Varnum attorney Peter Schmidt elected to Michigan Great Lakes West JDRF Board of Directors

Varnum real estate attorney Peter A. Schmidt has been elected to the Michigan Great Lakes West JDRF Board of Directors. As a director, his primary responsibilities include fundraising, leadership and advocacy for the organization.

JDRF?is a national orgaization . The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications through the support of research. JDRF  is the leading global organization focused on type I diabetes and the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. For more information on the national JDRF, visit http://jdrf.org.

There are a number of chapters throughout the U.S., and the Michgian Great Lakes West Chapter is a large one. Schmidt joins a large board of influential individuals. Among other duties, board directors are required to become JDRF government relations advocates and engage congressional representatives on issues impacting people with T1D. Directors serve two-year terms and may serve up to three consecutive terms.

Schmidt is a partner at Varnum focusing his practice on real estate, finance and municipal matters. He works with businesses, institutions, developers and investors in all aspects of real estate including purchase, sales, leasing financing and development projects. He also represents lenders in commercial loan matters.

He attended Albion College for his undergraduate degree in english, and received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law. Schmidt is a past member of the Land Conservancy of West Michgian board.
