Miller Johnson welcomes new attorneys James Ens and Catherine Rische

Miller Johnson is pleased to welcome James A. Ens and Catherine J. Rische as Members in the Grand Rapids office.

James Ens has worked in commercial real estate for more than 30 years and is now part of Miller Johnson’s real estate practice group.  His niche is in development including economic structuring and financing. He has been the lead attorney on many high-profile projects in the downtown Grand Rapids area in recent years. 

Ens has significant experience in property acquisitions and dispositions, land use approvals and permits, leasing, and multi-use residential development. He also does mediation and arbitration for disputes.

Ens earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School and a B.B.A. from Western Michigan University.  Prior to joining Miller Johnson, Mr. Ens was with another Grand Rapids law firm where he was the head of the real estate practice and served on the executive committee.

Rische is an experienced transactional employee benefits attorney specializing in health care issues and general plan administration.  She has assisted client in developing benefit strategies and overseeing the development and implementation of participant and sponsor communications.

She advises them on all applicable regulations and guidance including ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, PPA and ACA. Rische has experience representing clients on matters with the IRS and Department of Labor (DOL).

Rische earned her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law followed by a LL.M. in Employee Benefits from The John Marshall Law School.  She has a B.A. from Aquinas College.  Prior to joining Miller Johnson, Ms. Riesche was a Member at Johnson & Krol in Chicago.  She is admitted to practice in Illinois.
