Warner partner appointed to two ACTEC committees

Warner Norcross + Judd LLP partner Mark K. Harder has been appointed to two committees of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Harder was appointed to the Business Planning and Practice committees at the 2019 ACTEC annual meeting, effective immediately and each term lasting one year. Currently chair of Warner’s Private Client and Family Office Group, he was elected a Fellow in 2006.

Becoming an ACTEC Fellow is the highest designation for trusts and estates attorneys. Only experienced trust and estate attorneys with a reputation for excellence among their peers who have made substantial contributions to the field through lecturing, writing, teaching and bar activities are extended an invitation to join ACTEC. To date, about 2700 lawyers throughout the United States are ACTEC Fellows.

The ACTEC?Business Planning Committee considers planning approaches and techniques under present law with emphasis on income and transfer tax considerations faced by taxpayers whose major assets are interests in businesses. The Practice Committee works to address how trust and estate attorneys can improve their practices and lives, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Harder concentrates his practice in estate planning and administration for high-net-worth individuals and in the representation of family-owned businesses and their owners.

He is an American Bar Association Fellow and member of the State Bars of Wisconsin and Michigan. Harder chaired the State Bar of Michigan committee that spent more than five years writing the Michigan Trust Code, which governs how trusts are established and administered in the state. Harder has also held numerous lead-

ership and board positions, including the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area.

He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America since 2005, and as Lawyer of the Year in the Grand Rapids area for trusts and estates law in 2010 and 2017. He has been ranked in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide since 2016 and named to the Top 100 Michigan Super Lawyers in 2017.

Harder holds a BBA with high distinction from the University of Iowa and a J.D. with highest distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law.
