Appointment made to Defender Commission
LANSING, MI--Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Thomas Adams, of Detroit, to the Michigan Appellate Defender Commission.
The seven-member commission develops a system of indigent appellate defense services, and oversees the State Appellate Defender Office and Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System.
''Thomas has displayed outstanding dedication to his community and state,'' said Snyder. ''He is a great addition to this commission.''
Adams is founder and president of the Chance for Life Organization, a Detroit-based service group that addresses the needs of incarcerated adults and juveniles who are released from prison and returning to communities. The Chance for Life Organization operates in seven Michigan prisons. Adams also is founder and president of TJA Staffing Services Inc. He previously held leadership positions with Henry Ford Hospital and the Michigan Department of Public Health. Adams holds a bachelor's degree from Tuskegee University. He replaces Carlyle Stewart. Adams will serve a four-year term that expires May 24, 2016, and his appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
