Get to Know Jordan Lindsey

Jordan N. Lindsey earned her J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law,  one of the first students to graduate with a Family Law Concentration. She holds an M.A. in counseling psychology from Louisiana Tech University, B.A. in psychology from Michigan State University and International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma from the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills.

Her private practice, Jordan Nicole Lindsey, P.C. has offices in Detroit and Southfield. Her YouTube channel, “Lindsey Law,” can be accessed through her firm’s website. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, Macomb County Bar Association, Detroit Bar Association, Women's Bar Association and Women's Lawyer's Association of Michigan.

What would surprise people about your job? How much of an opportunity it provides me to help people and seriously impact their lives, both short-term and long-term. My job is way more than a salary.

Why did you become a lawyer? I wanted to advocate for others and be able to stand up for people’s rights, including my own.

What’s your favorite law-related movie?
Legally Blonde, because no guy is ever getting in the way of my legal career either!

Who is your role model? I clerked for Judge Kathryn A. George during law school and she became an amazing mentor and friend. I admire her, both professionally and personally, and look up to her very much. I have been so grateful for her ongoing support and am truly inspired by her compassion and dedication to the legal profession.

Who would you like to trade places with for a day? Ellen DeGeneres. I think she is so cool and love how she uses her platform to spread and encourage kindness.

What advice do you have for someone considering law school? Find and do what works best for you and be kind to others.

What’s your proudest moment as a lawyer? In general: When clients tell me I have truly helped them and are so grateful for my help – it is the most fulfilling feeling, not just in life, but in practice. Specifically: The day I started my own solo practice was my proudest moment as a lawyer.

What do you do to relax? I sing and perform in musicals – it is my #1 stress reliever and the hobby that makes me happiest. I also bike at least 10-15 miles every day. It’s my, “me time” and I look forward to it every evening. In summers, you can also find me relaxing by the pool because I love the sunshine!

What other career path might you have chosen? Music or psychology/counseling. However, I feel blessed to have found a career where I’ve been able to incorporate all three of these passions.

What would you say to your 16-year-old self? Chill out.

What’s your happiest childhood memory?
Summers up north at my family’s cabin.

What is your most treasured material possession?
I finally bought my dream bike this spring – the Detroit Bikes Faygo edition B-Type in lime green.

What do you wish someone would invent? A third day in every weekend.

What’s the most awe-inspiring place you’ve been? Zambia.

What one super power would you enjoy? Mind-reading.

What’s one thing you would like to learn to do? Boxing.
