United Way is beginning 'Community Campaign' with call for volunteers

United Way is kicking off its $2,012,000 Community Campaign with a call for volunteers. A special "Day of Caring and Remembrance" event will launch the campaign on Friday, September 9. Nearly 30 volunteer opportunities with approximately 20 local nonprofits are available for area residents between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon that day. "Volunteers from across Jackson County will spend that morning helping area nonprofits," said Bruce Goldsen, co-owner of Jackson Radio Works, and Campaign Co-Chair with United Way. "It's a great way to honor the sacrifices our community has made since 9/11, and also help our friends in need. And it's even a better way to see first-hand the wonderful work our nonprofits are accomplishing." The event includes comments from Dr. Greg Fuller, local physician and an "on the ground" responder to the 9/11 tragedy in New York City. Also appearing will be newly crowned Rose Queen Megan Budd. Refreshments will be provided, along with t-shirts for all volunteers. Interested volunteers can register at the United Way website, uwjackson.org. Call United Way at 796-5123 for more information. The United Way of Jackson County is in its 76th year of serving the Jackson community. "It supports more than forty different programs and initiatives that help thousands of Jackson County residents improve their lives," a spokesperson said. Published: Thu, Sep 8, 2011
