Stars and Stripes honor veterans

On Sept. 11, Josh Latocki, an AmeriCorps member serving Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jackson County,  hosted a  flag-raising ceremony at Jackson’s United Way Center in recognition of  military veterans and their families.  “The United States flag is a symbol of Freedom, a symbol of acknowledgement to those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and it is a symbol of respect and love for our country,” said Latocki. Photographed in the front row, left to right, are Alex Jewett and Trent Sisty, both Army JROTC cadets with the Jackson Area Career Center Golden Knights, and Malachi Jordan. Standing, left to right are Carolyn Bloodworth of Consumers Energy, a Big Sister; Ken Toll, executive director of United Way of Jackson County; Martin Griffin, mayor of  Jackson;  Bruce Van Eyck, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jackson County; Billy Messner, a Big Brother; Cameron Sicilia (in front of Messner); Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand;  Latocki; and Jackson County Undersheriff Christopher Kuhl.
