MLK Diversity breakfast to be held Jan. 17

 Coordinated by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson County Intermediate School District and the City of Jackson Human Relations Commission, the mission of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Breakfast is to promote community collaboration to reflect Dr. King’s dream and to motivate youth for service and excellence.

The 12th Annual MLK Diversity Breakfast will be  held on January 17, 2014 at Gene Davis & Sons, 7:30 - 9 a.m.
The keynote speaker will be Shirley Stancato, executive director of New Detroit, Inc. 
As the longest serving president and CEO, Stancato provides leadership and guidance to carry-out New Detroit's mission to improve race relations in Southeast Michigan. Prior to joining New Detroit, Stancato enjoyed a long career at what is now Chase Bank, where she rose to the rank of senior vice president.
Stancato has received numerous awards throughout her career including the Distinguished Leadership Award from the National Association of Community Leadership, Crain's Detroit Business 100 Most Influential Women, Woman of Achievement by the Anti-Defamation League, and the Detroit News Michiganian of the Year. Stancato also appeared in Who's Who in Black Detroit - the Inaugural Edition, 2006.
A lifelong Detroiter, Stancato is a graduate of Cass Technical High School. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Wayne State University.
