MIS president to speak at Dec. 8 luncheon

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will host an Economic Luncheon with Roger Curtis, president of Michigan International Speedway, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8, in the Commonwealth Commerce Center Ballroom, 209 E. Washington Ave., Jackson. The price is $25 for Chamber members, and $45 for nonmembers.

Located in Brooklyn, MIS sells memories and drives local tourism, hosting many special events throughout the year that are not related to NASCAR. Roger Curtis, president of Michigan International Speedway, will talk about how he and his staff have turned MIS into a year-round destination. Besides, NASCAR, the speedway hosts the Michigan Wine and Beer Fest presented by Experience Jackson, Faster Horses, Childrenz Challenge, Mudarella, Tough Mudder, the MHSAA Cross Country Finals, Formula SAE, Spirit of American Blood Drive, driving schools, karting club events and more.
About 385,000 people visit MIS on an annual basis, generating more than $414 million in total economic activity annually, with nearly $173 million of that in direct economic benefit to Michigan. MIS boasts a proud, nearly 50-year history of hosting America’ best racing action on 1,400-plus acres in Irish Hills. MIS also has a foundation called MIS Cares and regularly donates money to local non-profits.
