WMU-Cooley Law School promotes three leaders at the school's Lansing campus

Western Michigan University Cooley Law School President and Dean Don LeDuc has announced leadership promotions at the Lansing campus.

Retired Brigadier General Michael C.H. McDaniel, professor of law and director of the Homeland Security Law LL.M. Program, has been appointed associate dean, where he will oversee  all academic, student, and administrative matters.

An expert in constitutional law and national security law, McDaniel is a former Brigadier General with the Michigan National Guard.  Before joining the faculty in 2010, he served as the deputy assistant secretary for homeland defense strategy, prevention and mission assurance at the Pentagon. From 2003-2007, he served as director of homeland security for Michigan.  As associate dean, McDaniel will.

 Christine Church, who served as associate dean of the Lansing campus and team leader for the academic team has been appointed associate dean of academic programs.

Church, who practiced family law, domestic violence, and bankruptcy before joining WMU-Cooley, has been an assistant dean and professor since 2006 and an associate dean since 2013.  In her new role, she will coordinate the law school’s assessment and learning outcomes initiatives, major curricular developments, and new weekend programs at the Auburn Hills and Tampa Bay campuses.

 Professor Mable Martin-Scott will serve as the campus assistant dean. An expert in commercial transactions and unemployment law, she joined the law school faculty in 2001. 

She has been chair of the Contracts Department since 2012 and has received the top faculty award for teaching excellence 11 times.

“Deans McDaniel, Church, and Martin-Scott are proven leaders in teaching the next generation of law students,” said WMU-Cooley President and Dean Don LeDuc. 

“As we deepen our affiliation with Western Michigan University, our students will also benefit from their extensive teaching and administrative experience.”
