Kaylon Wilson grew up in Taylor and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 2005. After attending Henry Ford Community College for two years, she transferred to Wayne State University, graduating in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

In September 2010, Wilson began law school at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Ann Arbor. As a student attorney, she worked for the Washtenaw County Public Defender Clinic, the Guardianship Review Project, the Washtenaw County Trial Court and a family law firm based in downtown Ann Arbor.

After graduating law school in January of 2014, Wilson went on to work as an attorney at a small Taylor firm that focused on family law, social security disability, probate and bankruptcy.

Wilson joined the Ann Arbor firm of Reed Law Group, P.C. in January 2016. She is a member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan Family Law section. Wilson hopes to move to Ann Arbor in the near future. She is also planning a trip to Greece next spring.

What is your most treasured material possession?
I have a few and they’re all things passed down to me by family. One in particular that stands out is a baby blanket crocheted for me by my maternal grandmother.

What was always written on your grade school report card? Too “social” and talks too much.

What is your happiest childhood memory? Dancing in the living room to Aerosmith with my mom and younger sister.

When you were considering law school, what was Plan B?
To attend graduate school in psychology.

What would surprise people about your job?
The fact that very few cases proceed to trial, and how much you miss certain clients when their cases are complete.

What do you wish someone would invent? A time machine.

When you look back into the past, what do you miss most?
Having all my friends and family nearby.

What were you doing in your last selfie? I was in Las Vegas with 15 of my friends celebrating my 30th birthday. We were at Encore Beach Club seeing David Guetta DJ.

What question do you most often ask yourself? “What’s wrong with people?”

What’s the most awe-inspiring place you’ve ever been?
I went to Hawaii with my family in March 2016. I was in awe over Pearl Harbor, Diamondhead, Haleakala National Park and Kaanapali beach.

What’s something you changed your mind about recently? Cheeseburgers. My entire childhood and as an adult, I didn’t like the taste of them. Recently, I went to Townhouse in Birmingham and had the urge to try one. I can officially say a bacon cheeseburger is one of my favorite foods now.

What is one thing you would like to learn to do?
There are so many things I would like to learn to do! I’d have to say sing (some may say you can’t “learn” to sing – I disagree), ballroom dance, drive a motorcycle, play an instrument, cook.

What is something most people don’t know about you?
I have six tattoos. I can’t swim. I hate mashed potatoes. I served Coney dogs and root beer floats at A&W for seven years.

What is the best advice you ever received?
Treat people the way you want to be treated. Live without regrets.
