Paws for Thought

Jackson County Animal Control Officer Shawn Lutz and  “Annie,” an American Staffordshire and Boxer mix, gave a presentation on June 18 to NALS of Jackson County. The two are pictured amongst the many donations NALS members collected for the Jackson County Animal Shelter. Annie, her mate and six puppies were rescue dogs before she became part of the ACO team. She has been trained to herd a dog running loose back to the Animal Control Officer. Her mate and puppies have been adopted. After four years without animal control in Jackson County, voters passed a 10-year millage last August, and the department has been up and running since February.  Before his 2016 retirement, Lutz was Fire Chief of the Columbia Township Fire Department.
