Gov. Snyder names Celeste Bell to 7th Circuit Court

February 5, 2018 - LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder has announced the appointment of Celeste Bell to the 7th Circuit Court in Genesee County.

“Celeste has had a distinguished legal career,” Snyder said. “I’m confident that her integrity and experience will serve Genesee County residents well.”

Bell is the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Civil Division for Genesee County where she serves as in-house counsel for the Genesee Board of Commissioners, elected county officials, and county departments on all civil matters. From 1991 to 1994 she worked as Deputy City Attorney in San Francisco, Calif.  She began her legal career as a staff attorney at the United States District Court for the Ninth Circuit.

Bell is a member of the Genesee County Bar Association and served on the Swartz Creek Area Fire Board from 2015 to 2016.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1978 from the University of Michigan and her law degree in 1986 from Golden Gate University School of Law.  Bell is the daughter of former Wayne County Circuit Judge Edward Bell.

Bell fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Archie L. Hayman. She must seek election in November 2018 for a full term.
