Temptation time comes again

As the holidays draw nearer, the lure of fancying things up, going overboard, and creating opulence looms large.

One way to get your fix without breaking the bank is by attending the Tempting Tables event on Oct. 10-12 at the new Delta by Marriott downtown.

All days’ events  begin at 10 a.m.; Thursday and Friday end at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 6 p.m.

This year there will be 38 tempting tablescapes, and nine collections for viewing pleasure. Not all are holiday-themed, but all are a delight for the senses and plenty of inspiration for seasonal decor.

Tickets are $20 at the door, but it is possible to save $5 each by buying them in advance at www.temptingtables.org. Children six and under are $6 at the door.

You can also pay $60 and get a patron ticket for a pre-event that takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 4-7 p.m. This includes a private celebration, a chance to see the beautiful tables in advance, and unlimited admission for the remaining days.

The upside to these expenditures is that proceeds from the every-other-year event go to breast cancer research, or to a “dream fulfillment” fund to help those with cancer.

On Oct. 12 at 9:30 a.m., Dr. Sofia Merajver of University of Michigan and Dr. Carrie Graveel of the VanAndel Institute, breast cancer researchers, and reconstruction surgeon Dr. Ryan Terlouw of Muskegon Surgical Associates will be at the Beardsley Theater downtown to tell the public (free) about  the latest research and available treatment options.
