Erosion strikes

Add the strong winds and crashing waves of recent storms to the already-high levels of water in Lake Michigan, and you have a recipe for disaster.

And disastrous is a good word for what has occurred at Pere Marquette Park, with the beach eroded right to the road’s edge.

There was also a lot of damage to Muskegon’s Lakeshore Trail, causing its partial closure; and the channel by Lake Harbor Park is seeing a lot of sand piled up near the mouth, likely requiring future dredging, and strong wave action threatening the channel wall.
