For many, memories of playing the board game Candyland when they were very young are sweet.

Fruitport District Library brought that delight to new young people in a wonderful new way over the holiday break by setting up a human-scale Candyland game in the basement of the library and inviting the community in.

The library’s Director Adam DeWitt, who started there in 2018, credited Youth Services Librarian Teisha Struik-Kothe, Circulation Clerk Beth Werking, Library Director Adam DeWitt, Board President Rose Dillon,  and other volunteers with creating the game board on the floor and putting up a lot of festive, cute decorations. A volunteer rolled dice to determine what colored square each player would move to, and as in the board game people would move from near the finish line all the way back to the beginning as fortunes turned.

The Fruitport District Library, which is not affiliated with other libraries in the county, has a lot of events coming up, including Winter Watercolors Jan. 18 and DIY Bath Bombs Jan. 30. For more visit and go to the calendar.
