Spring into Lakeside 2018 will include enough of what has made the event super-fun over the approximately 12 years it has taken place in the past and enough of what is new to satisfy everyone’s tastes.

This year’s circus theme is highly appropriate, because the Lakeside neighborhood has always offered a sort of “big tent,” under which all are welcome.

The May 19 event will still feature a dog parade as in past years. It starts at 10 a.m., and is sponsored by Sitting Pretty Pet Spa, where people should register that day.

Sidewalk chalk art, the fire truck, the Kids Art Spot, face painting, and the usual sales and bargains will continue to be offered.

New this year are Pat’s Pony Rides from 12-2 p.m., as well as the opportunity to guess the number of “somethings” at local businesses to win prizes. Returning for only the second year is a free bike helmet give-away and the opportunity to register bikes with the City of Muskegon at no charge. Visitors can also enter an Instagram Selfie Contest under the hashtag #ilovelakeside. Wasserman’s will have cotton candy, Blue Horizons Wellness will have free kids’ yoga, and movies are $4 all day at the Harbor Cinema.

Louise Hopson of ArtCats Gallery and a leader in the Lakeside District Association, adds, “We’re also giving out free clown noses. What could be better than that?”

Detailed information and times are on Facebook or at LakesideDistrict.com.
